5. Ravichandran Ashwin – 4/62
Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin grabs the fifth spot on this list. During the first test of India’s tour of England 2018, the right-arm spinner clinched a four-wicket haul at Edgbaston.
With his four wickets for 62 runs, Ashwin helped India bowl out England for 287 in the first innings. He later took three wickets in the second innings. However, England eventually won the encounter by 31 runs.
4. Erapalli Prasanna – 4/60
Erapalli Prasanna is a former right-arm off-break bowler who played 49 tests for the Indian Cricket Team from 1962 to 1978. During India’s first test clash against England in Birmingham in July 1967, Prasanna clinched four wickets for 60 runs in the second innings.
In the first innings, he captured a three-wicket haul. England won the encounter by 132 runs after setting a mammoth total of 410 runs for the visitors in the second innings.
3. Kapil Dev – 5/146
Former India captain Kapil Dev grabs the third place on this list. During a test match against England at Edgbaston in July 1979, the former India all-rounder hunted a five-wicket haul in the first innings.
Interestingly, England piled up a gigantic total of 633/5d, and Kapil was the only Indian bowler who got wickets. The rest of the bowling unit went wicketless in the first innings. Later, England won the encounter by a huge margin of an innings and 83 runs.
2. Ishant Sharma- 5/51
During the first test of India’s tour of England 2018, Ishant Sharma hunted a five-wicket haul. While spinner Ashwin rocked with his four-wicket haul in the first innings, pacer Sharma grabbed the limelight with a fifer in the second innings for 51 runs. The right-arm pacer clinched a total of six wickets in the match, which India lost by 31 runs in the end.
1. Chetan Sharma- 6/58
Former India pacer Chetan Sharma steals the top spot on this list with his six-wicket haul against England at Edgbaston in 1986. During the third test of the three-match series, Sharma picked up a four-wicket haul in the first innings.
The right-arm pacer later returned with a six-wicket haul in the second innings to steal 10 wickets in the entire match. The match eventually ended in a draw. Notably, this encounter is still India’s only test at Edgbaston, which they didn’t lose against England.
