Manchester United profit in millions from sell-on clauses on former players: Report

The Red Devils have barely been active in the summer window.

Thanks to shrewd transfer clauses, Manchester United are expected to profit millions from trades involving their former players.

Since the conclusion of the previous season, the Red Devils have added two players: teenage defender Diego Leon and Matheus Cunha.

They are still in discussions with Brentford on a possible transfer for Bryan Mbeumo, who is said to have reached a personal agreement.

Despite a few of their present stars requesting to leave the team, United have not yet sold any players. Tyrell Malacia, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, and Marcus Rashford are reportedly considering summer departures.

They no longer participate in routine training sessions and only report to Carrington at the end of the day when the first team has finished.

In order to raise funds that can be used for other purposes, United will want to begin generating sales. A clever bit of business they did last summer has already brought in millions of pounds.

What happened?

In a move for more than £43 million, Alvaro Fernandez, who the Red Devils transferred to SL Benfica last summer, has officially joined Real Madrid. Because of the sell-on clause they added when the defender left Old Trafford, United will get a big windfall.

According to BBC Sport, Manchester United will receive approximately £7.5 million, which will significantly improve their financial situation before the upcoming season. They have additionally pocketed a further £6m because of a clause inserted in a former player’s deal. Anthony Eland is the player in question, who recently moved to Newcastle United.

In January, while searching the market for a left-back to fit his system, Ruben Amorim contemplated re-signing Fernandez. Instead, United paid about £15 million for Patrick Dorgu’s services.
