Ford recalling 144,516 Mavericks due to freezing backup camera images

The Ford Maverick is being recalled, again.

In the never ending string of Ford recalls the 2022-2024 Maverick is the latest offender. Ford’s issued a recall for 144,516 pickups because the backup camera display can freeze.

Ford said the frozen image displayed on the infotainment screen while in reverse could result in a false representation of where the vehicle is relative to its surroundings.

This could lead to an increase risk of crash, or worse, backing over something or someone.

The root issue, according to Ford, is an improper memory handling within the software. This is causing a component in the image processing path to fail.

Ford said its aware of two accidents due to this issue, but no related injuries.

Ford dealerships were notified of the issue on Sept. 16 with letters being mailed to customers beginning Sept. 30.

Customers will need to take their Maverick to a Ford dealership for a free software update for the truck’s touchscreen infotainment system.

Vehicles affected by the recall were built between Feb. 3, 2021 and Nov. 28, 2023.
